Alive e-Show 1.1
Release Notes

May 1999

General

RealNetworks RealPlayer 5.0
In order to view e-shows, you must have RealPlayer 5.0 installed. If RealPlayer 5.0 is not installed on your computer, you can install it using the Alive e-Show CD. For best results, remove any previous versions of RealPlayer using the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet before installing RealPlayer 5.0.

If you receive a RealPlayer error message or a browser fault while viewing an e-show, it's likely that you've encountered a RealPlayer limitation. To solve this problem, try re-timing your slides or re-record your audio or video clip.

If you are running RealPlayer G2, you may encounter problems while viewing an e-show.
Running the Help system
The Help system requires that you have Internet Explorer 3.02 or later installed on your computer. It does not need to be your default web browser. If it is not installed, you can install the latest version of Internet Explorer for free from the Microsoft web site.
Sharing an e-show document
When creating an e-show with other people, you must map a network drive to the location of the e-show document. If you use a UNC file path, you will not be able to access the attached media, publish, or preview the e-show. For example,

Correct:    f:\e-shows\NewProduct.apf
Incorrect:  \\server1\public\e-shows\NewProduct.apf

Audio and Video

Cannot record video in Alive e-Show
Alive e-Show uses Video for Windows to record video. A few video cameras and video capture cards do not support the Video for Windows drivers. If you are unable to record video using Alive e-Show, you should record your video using the capture application that you installed with your camera. Then, attach the video clip to your e-show by choosing Video Clip from the Insert menu.
End of media files getting clipped
When recording audio and video clips, we recommend that you leave a pause at the end of the file. In order to transition to the next section, Alive e-Show needs approximately one-tenth of a second. If you do not leave the pause, this may cause the last word of your media clip not to be played.
Multiple video capture devices
If you have multiple capture devices, such as two digital video cameras, Alive e-Show will use the first available camera that it detects. If you wish to use a specific camera, you must explicit specify not to use all other video capture devices that may be installed. To make a capture device unavailable, use the Devices tab of the Multimedia Control Panel.
Re-recording slides using the Intel Create and Share Camera
If you are running Windows 95, you cannot re-record the video clip for a slide using the Intel Create & Share Camera unless your video was recorded at 12 ; IYUV resolution. To set your camera's resolution ("Pixel Depth"), click the Format button on the Advanced tab of the Media Properties dialog box.
Recording with the Panasonic EggCam
When recording video at 160x120 using the Panasonic EggCam, do not use the Microsoft H.263 Video Codec compression scheme.
No preview when recording video
If you installed Alive e-Show into a folder with a relatively deep path, then Alive e-Show may have problems showing the preview window or crash when recording video. Your install path should be no larger than 70 characters. If your install path is larger than 70 characters, you should uninstall Alive e-Show and re-install it using the default installation folder or a shorter path.

Viewing e-shows

Showing multiple e-shows simultaneously
You can only view one e-show at a time on your computer. If you open a new Web browser window to view the e-show, you must close any other Web browser windows that contain open e-shows. If you don't, the newer e-show may play the media clip from the previous e-show you viewed.
E-shows don't start when viewed
If any audio or video section of your e-show fails to automatically start, click the Play button underneath the media.

Publishing e-shows

Publishing to a read-only network folder
Alive e-Show cannot copy your e-show files to another computer's shared file folder if that folder is read-only. If you specify a read-only folder in step 4 of the Publish to Web wizard, Alive e-Show will report erroneously that the files were copied properly. However, no files were copied and clicking the View Now button on the Publication Complete dialog box will do nothing.

Allaire HomeSite 4.0 Trial Edition

Running Allaire HomeSite 4.0 for the first time
The first time you run the Allaire Homesite 4.0 Trial Edition, the Alive e-Show CD must be in your computer's CD-ROM drive. The HomeSite Trial Edition requires access to files on the Alive e-Show CD in order to finish its installation process. If the Alive e-Show CD is not accessible, you will receive an error message. This will happen only the first time you run HomeSite.
